Irish Art Ep 3

Welcome to episode three of The Irish Art podcast with Andrew, Attracta and Sarah Eva Manson. This is a venture that we have wanted to do for a long time and have now decided to jump right in headfirst and learn as we go. We will let you know tips and tricks and what works and what was a total flop so that you can make informed decisions going forward and hopefully you will get inspired and gain the confidence to take the first step on your creative journey.

In this episode, we discuss some of Andrew Manson’s work. A small acrylic and a slide from the 1970s that depicts a wildly inappropriate advertisement for cigarettes atop of a building on Grafton Street - something that is unheard of today.

The first round of RHA submissions are digital and we discuss preparing your files for digital submissions and the importance of colour correction.

How does one decide the size and format of a photographic artwork and how it should be as a finished piece.

Attracta has built stretcher frames, stretched and primed the linen and has begun preparing it for painting. This is a rather small piece as Attractas work goes 107 cm x 107 cm - she usually works much larger than this.

We dissect some catalogues from RHA to see what other photographers do by way of finish and framing - I notice the lack of Watercolour which gives me the fear because I then start to second guess whether I should submit at all.

I discuss my fairy door constructions and Attracta raises the issue of treated/ untreated wood in the home - of which I need to do some research.

Irish Art Ep 2

Welcome to episode two of The Irish Art podcast with Andrew, Attracta and Sarah Eva Manson.

In this episode, we discuss our preparations for submitting to the RHA and whether you make work to fit the next submission or do you use the submission as a notch in the timeline of which this body of work is developing, whether applying for grants is difficult for a reason and how one should go about it.
