This striking piece by Andrew Manson captures both the immediacy of daily life and the playful, almost abstract qualities of form and pattern. Painted in acrylic, the bold geometry of the swimsuit contrasts with the warmth of the figure and the soft lavender background, creating a composition that feels both intimate and iconic.

Inspiration & Process
Manson’s works often grow from small studies and observations, becoming part of his larger series that question history, identity, and the role of the artist in contemporary life. Here, the everyday act of swimming is elevated through painterly texture and a sense of rhythm—an example of his ongoing exploration of art as daily practice.

About the Artist
Andrew Manson, originally from Brighton and a graduate of the Dun Laoghaire art school, works across fine art painting, photography, performance, and film. His serious works demonstrate how life extends beyond its own subjective limits, often reflecting on remembrance, play, and shared difference. His work has been selected for the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA) on multiple occasions, including 1982, 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Currently based at Ballyrogan House, Manson continues to develop collections of paintings and photography that form part of his larger Diary and This Is A Game series.
